Brexit’s impact on health law in Ireland to be discussed at Joint Committee on Health

The implications of Brexit for health law in Ireland and the EU will be discussed at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health tomorrow, Wednesday, 6 November, In Leinster House, Committee room 4 at 9am.

Professor Imelda Maher, Dean of Law and Professor of European Law, UCD Sutherland School of Law and Professor Tamara Hervey, Jean Monnet, Professor of European Union Law, University of Sheffield will appear before the Committee.

Speaking before the meeting, Dr Michael Harty TD said: “The likely shape of Brexit will have implications for Ireland especially as many of our medicines and medical products come from the UK. Tomorrow's meeting will delve more deeply into the potential implications of Irish and EU health law diverging from UK law in the aftermath of Brexit. We are indeed fortunate in having both witnesses available to give evidence given their extensive knowledge on these issues.”
