Joint Committee on Business, Enterprise and Innovation to resume pre-legislative scrutiny of General Scheme of Employment Permits (Consolidation and Amendment) Bill

Deputies and Senators will meet with representatives of the Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC) and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) at 4pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House to discuss the proposed legislation, which if enacted will repeal and replace a number of current Acts on the Statute Books which deal with Employment Permits.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chair Mary Butler TD said: “This Bill aims to update our current work permits system to ensure it meets Ireland’s skills and labour needs. Its provisions include a revision of the labour market needs test, and the introduction of seasonal and special circumstances employment permits. Members were briefed on the proposed legislation at our last meeting by officials from the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, and now look forward to hearing the views of these two key stakeholders.”
