Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism & Sport to discuss Personal Powered Transportation

26 Samh 2019, 03:01

The Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism & Sport will meet tomorrow when the topic of Personal Powered Transportation (PPTs) is discussed before the Committee.

Wednesday’s meeting in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 1.30pm will hear from officials from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and representatives from the Road Safety Authority.

Committee Chair Fergus O’Dowd TD said: “The popularity of Personal Powered Transport is growing, and with this opportunity comes challenges too, and we will discuss these issues on Wednesday.

“In recent months the Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, requested the Road Safety Authority (RSA) to conduct research into the use of eScooters (and similar vehicles) in other countries and the implications for the interaction of such vehicles with other vulnerable road users, along with other ‘normal’ vehicular traffic so as to inform the Department when giving consideration as to whether or not to ‘revisit’ the definition of a mechanically propelled vehicle.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
