The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, at 9am to meet officials from the Revenue Commissioners.

The focus of the PAC’s examination will be the 2018 Appropriation Account of the Revenue Commissioners, the 2018 Revenue Account and chapters from the C&AG’s 20I8 report dealing with tax compliance interventions and tax relief on film production.

The Appropriation Account shows that Revenue spent €425 million in 2018 on the administration and collection of taxes and duties and on frontier management.

The Revenue Account shows that receipts of €54.6 billion were transferred to the Exchequer in 2018 and these included Income tax, income levy and USC collected of €23.5 billion, VAT receipts of €19.3 billion and Corporation Tax receipts of €11.4 billion.

The C&AG’s chapter on Tax Compliance Interventions shows the results of an examination carried out to review progress made by Revenue in tightening up its controls around compliance interventions and the agreement and collection of tax settlements.

The C&AG’s chapter on tax relief on film production reviews the administration of the relief, approval mechanisms and the adequacy of the business case analysis underpinning film relief.

Chairman of the PAC, Seán Fleming TD, said: “The findings and recommendations of the C&AG’s report chapters on tax compliance interventions and tax relief on film production and Revenue’s response are of great public interest. We will engage with the Revenue Commissioners regarding their internal financial control regime regarding administration and procurement expenditure and its assessment, collection, appeals and debt management procedures relating to the various taxes and duties.”
