Climate Action Committee to discuss Renewable Energy with three organisations due to appear

3 Noll 2019, 15:20

The Joint Committee on Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, to discuss renewable Energy - Wind, Solar & Biogas, with representatives from three organisations.

The Irish Solar Energy Association, the Renewable Gas Forum and SuperNode will appear in Committee Room 3 from 2pm.

In advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Hildegarde Naughton TD, said:

“We look forward to discussing these three options with three key stakeholders, as the transformation of Ireland’s energy system from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy could be achieved with a wide portfolio of different energy sources and types, including wind, solar and bioenergy.

“The main barrier to wind energy (both onshore and offshore) in Ireland is largely related to the development of the regulatory and legislative framework. The main barrier to the development of solar energy in Ireland is also largely related to the development of the regulatory and legislative framework particularly in planning and grid restrictions.

Deputy Naughton added;“The third element, Biogas, is a renewable gas which can be applied directly to end use in electricity, heating or transport and is considered a dispatchable source of power, which can be used to balance the intermittency of solar and wind energy supply.”
