Oireachtas Committee to discuss implementation of Sustainable Development Goals by 2030

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will discuss the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 with representatives of Dóchas, World Vision and Coalition 2030 in Leinster House, tomorrow at 11.30am.

Dóchas Chief Executive Officer, Suzanne Keatinge, World Vision International Vice-President and Regional Director for East Africa, Dr. Stephen Omollo, World Vision Director of International Programmes Maurice Sadler, Coalition 2030 Co-Ordinator Jerry MacEvilly will appear remotely before the Committee.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee chairman, Charlie Flanagan TD said: “The UN’s Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all by 2030.

“The Committee looks forward to hearing from representatives of organisations working towards these goals and hearing an assessment of progress made both internationally and in Ireland in achieving these targets, and the work being done to improve lives across the world.

“Among the witnesses tomorrow, Dr. Stephen Omollo will be joining us by video link from Kenya to detail his first-hand experience of how working towards SDGs and reaching milestones is transforming lives of children and families.”
