Oireachtas Committee to hear from Minister for Health

3 Samh 2020, 04:23

The Joint Committee on Health will discuss the on-going Covid-19 response and review Budget 2021 with the Minister for Health at a meeting in Leinster House tomorrow, Wednesday, 4 November at 11.30am.

Minister Stephen Donnelly will attend before the Committee of TDs and Senators in Committee Room 2.

Speaking before the meeting Committee Chair Seán Crowe TD said: “Members want to hear details from the Minister on the on-going response to Covid-19 and its impact on Covid and non-Covid patient care including the care of vulnerable people living in nursing homes where unfortunately we have heard reports of more outbreaks occurring.

“Collectively, Committee members have all expressed concern on the lengthening of waiting lists, Covid’s impact on cancer care and other screening services and the ongoing psychological and physical effects, Covid-19 is having on frontline staff.

“While health spending in Budget 2021 was increased, Members want to discuss the spending plan in detail with the Minister and find out how that money will be  targeted to gain the most benefit for patients, and what plans are in place to improve staffing levels across the healthcare sector to meet  that demand. In particular, the provision of extra hospital beds and the accompanying extra staff resources that will enable these beds to become operational will be examined with the Minister”
