The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 12 November, to consider the Comptroller and Auditor General’s Appropriation Accounts, and Chapter 4 from his 2019 Report, with the Department of Social Protection.
Chaired by Deputy Brian Stanley, the meeting at 11.30am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, will hear from the C&AG, Seamus McCarthy, followed by the Secretary General, John McKeon, and officials from the Department.
The accounts and report to be examined are:
- C&AG Appropriation Account 2019 Vote 37 (Employment Affairs and Social Protection);
- C&AG 2019 report – Chapter 4: Control over welfare payments.
Deputy Stanley said: “The Department of Social Protection has the largest budget of any department and accounts for a quarter of all Government spending. Last year the Department spent €20.8 billion and it is important that taxpayers know how these monies are spent. The Committee looks forward to engaging with the Secretary General and his officials.”
The PAC is a standing committee of Dáil Éireann which focuses on ensuring public services are run efficiently and achieve value for money.
The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
