EU Affairs Committee to discuss New Migration and Asylum Pact

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will discuss the European Commission’s New Migration and Asylum Pact at a meeting in Leinster House tomorrow, Wednesday, 2 December at 9am.

Michael Shotter, Director of Migration and Protection in the European Commission Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs will appear remotely before the Committee for the discussion.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee chairman Deputy Joe McHugh said: “The European Commission’s New Migration and Asylum Pact was published in September and brings together policy in the areas of migration, asylum, integration and border management and EU's relationship with third countries.

“The Committee welcomes this engagement with Mr Shotter to explore the Pact in more detail including the timeline for implementation of the strategy, new regulations like the solidarity mechanism and the new targetsfor improving screening and examining asylum claims.”
