Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment to discuss Brexit readiness

1 Noll 2020, 14:41

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 2 December, to discuss the readiness of businesses, employees and communities for the coming into effect of the UK’s departure from the EU.

The meeting at 9am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will hear from:

  • Representatives from Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC);
  • Representatives from Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU);
  • Representatives from Border Communities against Brexit;

Committee Chairman Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “Brexit is one the greatest challenges we have ever faced and will have massive implications for businesses, workers and communities across the island, especially those in border areas.

“How we trade with Britain, which is still such an important market for many sectors, will fundamentally change from January 1, 2021, whether or not a trade deal is agreed between the EU and UK.

“As this deadline approaches it is important that the Committee hears how prepared Irish businesses are for the challenges ahead. We look forward to discussing these and related matters with the representatives of employers, unions and border communities.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
