Oireachtas Committee to hear from the Head of Mission of Palestine and the Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will meet the Ambassador Head of Mission of Palestine Jilan Abdalmajid and the Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine Olena Shaloput at a meeting in Leinster House tomorrow, Thursday, 3 December at 11.30am.

The Committee will hear from Ambassador Abdalmajid, during the first part of the meeting.

Committee Chair Charlie Flanagan TD said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to engage with the Ambassador Head of Mission of Palestine and get an update on the current political situation in the region, the work of Irish-funded development and humanitarian programmes and of course the effect Covid-19 is having in the area and the work being done to mitigate the pandemic’s impact.

Chargé d’Affaires Shaloput, will address the Committee during the second part of the meeting.

Deputy Flanagan TD said: “Ireland enjoys a positive relationship with Ukraine, which is set to be strengthened with the opening of a resident embassy in Kyiv in early 2021. The Committee welcomes this engagement with Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine Olena Shaloput to discuss growing Irish-Ukrainian links, reform in the Ukraine particularly in the areas of security, electoral reform, and the energy sector, trade, and the current situation in Eastern Ukraine.”
