Committee to learn of proposal for Cargo AirBridge service into Liege, bypassing the UK

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications Networks will meet tomorrow when it meets to discuss the impact of Brexit on Haulage, Freight and Ferries from 11.30 am with the Irish Road Haulage Association, Cargo Logistics and DFDS Ferries.

Speaking in advance of the meeting  In Committee Room 4, Committee Chair Kieran O’Donnell, TD, said: “With a little over two weeks to go until the end of the transitional period, and much uncertainty and concern among businesses across the country, Brexit and related matters will be discussed when we meet on Wednesday.

Chair O’Donnell explained: “Connectivity across our Island and the continent beyond December 31 is central to the success of our businesses, and we look forward to the insight of those in the haulage, ferries and freight industries which will be timely.

“There are serious concerns about trade, and supply chains, and the risks and disruption associated with Brexit. Our ports, haulage freight and ferries represent critical infrastructure in light of the importance of our imports and exports to our economy. On Wednesday we will discuss issues related to theUK Landbridge and also air freight. More specifically we will learn about the concept of a Cargo AirBridge service into Liege, bypassing the UK.”

Tomorrow’s meeting will be streamed live on Oireachtas TV.
