21 Ean 2021, 13:36

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will begin Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Companies (Corporate Enforcement Authority) Bill 2018 when it meets tomorrow, Friday, 22 January.

The meeting at 1pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will hear from representatives from Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement, led by Ian Drennan, the Director of Corporate Enforcement.

Committee Chairman Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “The principal aim of the Bill is to establish the Corporate Enforcement Authority, which the Bill proposes will be independent in the performance of its tasks and exercise of its powers under the Companies Act.

“Like the current Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement, it is proposed the Authority will be responsible for enforcing and encouraging compliance with the Companies Act. The Bill as proposed contains all the necessary provisions in relation to the constitution and membership of the new Authority.

“The Committee looks forward to discussing the Heads of the Bill with the Director and his colleagues.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
