Joint Committee on Disability Matters to discuss Special Education Policy with Minister of State Madigan

The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet with Minister of State Josepha Madigan tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 February to discuss how Ireland’s Special Education Policy aligns with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

The meeting with the Minister for State with responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion will take place at 1pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House. Matters for discussion include school transport, delays in return to special needs classes and forward planning for Special Education provision, with particular focus on suitable educational placements.

Committee Chair Deputy Michael Moynihan said: “The Committee looks forward to engaging with the Minister of State and hopes to bring a spotlight to the many challenges that are experienced by children with disabilities which have been exasperated by the Covid pandemic.”

The Joint Committee on Disability Matters has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
