Health Committee to hear from Minister for Health

1 Márta 2021, 13:35

The Joint Committee on Health will get an update from Health Minister Stephen Donnelly on Covid-19 related health issues at a meeting in Leinster House, tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 March at 4pm.

Deputy Seán Crowe will chair the meeting from Committee Room 2.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee Chairman Deputy Crowe said: “More than 4,000 Covid-19 deaths have been recorded and there have been thousands more confirmed cases in the State since the pandemic began. Vaccination progress is offering hope of a future hopefully free of lockdown and harsh restrictions, but we have seen the exclusion of some groups and this requires examination and scrutiny. The vaccination programme is possibly the most important public health campaign in a generation. It is vital that we get it right.

“The Committee welcomes this engagement with the Minister to get an update on various issues around the Covid-19 response including the impact of staff absences due to Covid-19 and the payment of student nurses who were filling full time posts in their absence, the delivery of acute treatment that has been impacted by the pandemic such as cancer treatment, and the review of the vaccine priority list.”
