Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage to resume Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Affordable Housing Bill

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet tomorrow to resume Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Affordable Housing Bill.

The purpose of the meeting, scheduled for 10am in the Dáil Chamber, (watch live), is to engage with representatives from the County and City Management Association (CCMA) and The Housing Alliance. Tomorrow’s witnesses are

  • Mr Frank Curran, Chair of the CCMA Housing, Building and Land Use Committee
  • Eddie Taaffe, Programme Co-Ordinator, Housing Delivery and Co-Ordination Office
  • Catherine Keenan, Director of Services, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council
  • Sharon Cosgrove, CEO Oaklee Housing
  • Declan Dunne, CEO Respond  
  • Brian O’Gorman, CEO Cluid  

In advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Steven Matthews, TD, said: “The Committee looks forward to Tuesday’s engagement as our Local Authorities, along with Approved Housing Bodies, perform variety of housing services, including a programme of new social housing construction across all parts of the country.

“Cost rental and the affordable purchase shared equity scheme will be discussed, as well as proposed improvements in the areas of assessment of purchaser eligibility, scheme of priority and charging period. As a committee we are very interested in the ability of Local Authorities to deliver affordable housing in conjunction with the Programme for Government. Furthermore, we as a committee will make our own recommendations with respect to the legislation.”
