Budgetary Oversight Committee to hear from ESRI

8 Márta 2021, 15:25

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will begin its pre-Stability Programme Update engagement when it meets with representatives of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) in Leinster House tomorrow, Tuesday 9 March at 3.30pm.

Professor Kieran McQuinn and Karina Doorley from the ESRI will appear before the Committee of TDs and Senators. The Committee intends to publish a pre-SPU report into issues addressed in the SPU.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee Chair Neasa Hourigan TD said: “The Committee intends to publish a pre-Stability Programme Update report which will focus on areas such as assumptions underpinning economic forecasts, particularly with respect to Covid-19 and possible fiscal objectives over the medium term.

“The Committee welcomes this engagement with the ESRI , as part of that process, to hear about the impact of ongoing restrictions and the impact on previous economic assumptions; the cost of Covid-19 related unemployment and the shorter-term fiscal pressures tied to support payments and the decision on how long to continue policies such as the Pandemic Unemployment Payment and Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme.”
