The Joint Committee on Health will resume its discussion on the operation of the medical card scheme when it meets with representatives of the Irish Dental Association in Leinster House, tomorrow, Thursday, 8 April at 2pm.

President of the Irish Dental Association (IDA), Dr Anne O’Neill; IDA President-Elect  Dr.Clodagh McAllister; IDA Chief Executive Officer Fintan Hourihan; and Chair of the IDA General Practice Committee Dr. Caroline Robins will appear virtually for the meeting in Committee Room 2.

Committee Chairman Seán Crowe TD said: “An unprecedented number of dentists are reported to have withdrawn from the medical card scheme. This of course has serious repercussions for medical card holders in terms of accessing dental care under the scheme.

“We welcome this opportunity to hear from the Irish Dental Association on a number of issues including the numbers of dentists leaving the scheme, the reasons behind their decision and the impact this decision is having on patient care.”
