Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to meet tomorrow to resume discussion on the provision of Special Needs Education

The Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science will meet tomorrow when the provision of Special Needs Education (SNE) will be discussed with four key stakeholder groups.

For the second week running SNE will be examined by the committee, with a roundtable discussion on the provision of Special Needs Education with reference to the implementation of the 2004 Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs (EPSEN) Act, 2004.

Tomorrow’s meeting will be streamed live on Oireachtas TV and begins at 12.30pm in Committee Room 3, with the following witnesses appearing.

  • Mr. Adam Harris, CEO, As I am.
  • Dr. Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children.
  • Mr.  Barry Sheridan, CEO, Down Syndrome Ireland.
  • Ms. Mary Turley, Member and Ms. Lorraine Dempsey, Interim CEO, Inclusion Ireland.

Tomorrow’s meeting follows on from the April 13th discussion with Department of Education Officials on the Key Issues regarding SNE. .

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Paul Kehoe TD, said: “Last week we examined the Key Issues regarding SNE, Tuesday represents a great opportunity to engage with key stakeholders who play a fundamentally important role in the enhancement of SNE provision. The Committee looks forward to hearing their insights and knowledge.”
