Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht to discuss Department’s key priorities with Minister Martin and Minister Chambers

The meeting at 3.30pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Deputy Martin, and the Minister for State for the Gaeltacht and Sport, Deputy Chambers, will discuss the Department’s key priorities.

Committee Chair Deputy Niamh Smyth said: “The Committee previously met with Ministers Martin and Chambers last November to discuss the Department’s priorities, particularly in helping the tourism and hospitality, arts, culture and entertainment, and sports sectors recover from the impact of Covid-19.

“Unfortunately, since that meeting, the country has suffered an even more deadly wave of Covid infections and four months of public health restrictions that have heaped further distress on sectors that have been effectively shut down for a more than a year now.

“Now that the State’s vaccination programme is under way and the pace increasing, we look forward to discussing with the Ministers how the Department can assist these sectors to trade again and recover on a sustainable basis as society and the economy reopens through the summer. We are also interested in hearing the Department’s priorities beyond Covid through the rest of this year and into 2022.”

The Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
