The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will discuss the Commission on the Defence Forces with its Chair Aidan O’Driscoll at a meeting in Leinster House tomorrow, 20 April at 12.30pm.
Speaking before the meeting, Cathaoirleach of the Committee, Charlie Flanagan TD said: “The Commission is undertaking a review of the Defence Forces and is due to make its recommendations on the future of the Defence Forces by the end of the year. Part of its brief is to consider the appropriate structure and size of both the Permanent Defence Force (PDF) and the Reserve Defence Force (RDF). Staffing levels, recruitment and turnover and retention policies are all areas within its focus. The expert group recently conducted a public consultation as part of its work. The Committee is delighted to welcome Aidan O’Driscoll to the meeting to hear about the work of the Commission to date.”
