The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton at a meeting in Leinster House tomorrow, Tuesday 20th April at 9.30am.

The meeting with Commissioner Breton, who is heading a European taskforce on the industrial scale up of Covid-19 vaccines, will take place virtually from the Dáil Chamber.

The meeting will focus on EU industrial priorities including vaccine production and digital transformation.

Speaking before the meeting, Cathaoirleach of the Committee Joe McHugh TD said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to engage with Commissioner Breton on a wide range of topics.

“The new Industrial Strategy and its plans and benefits for SMEs; and addressing the privacy and civil liberty concerns surrounding the proposed Digital Green Certificate are among the issues the Committee plans to discuss.

“In terms of vaccine production there are many questions to be asked, including the types of capacity issues vaccine producers faced during the first quarter of the year and whether there is anything Ireland can do to support the European and global vaccine effort.”
