Joint Committee on Agriculture and the Marine to resume its discussion of the Regulation of Veterinary Medicines

The Joint Committee on Agriculture and the Marine will meet tomorrow evening for two separate sessions, to resume its discussion of the Regulation of Veterinary Medicines from 6.30pm.

The meeting in Committee Room 2, watch here will begin with a one hour meeting with representatives from Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA), before the Veterinary Council of Ireland appear from 7.30pm.

This will be the fourth committee specific to this topic, following on from meetings in November, February and March, when subject matter experts appeared, the most recent of these meetings saw Veterinary Ireland also appear.

Ahead of the meeting, Chair Jackie Cahill, TD, said “It is a little over a month since Veterinary Ireland appeared to assist the committee in our scrutiny of the EU Regulation on Veterinary Medicinal Products EU 2019/6, as many in the farming and agri sector are concerned that these regulations impact in a big way on their livelihoods.

Chair Cahill added: “Furthermore, the appearance and insight of the Health Products Regulatory Authority, the state agency entrusted with the responsibility of protecting public and animal health by regulating will be most welcome.”
