12 Beal 2021, 16:16

The Sub-Committee on Mental Health will discuss mental health supports available to help people cope with depression and the challenges arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic at a meeting in Leinster House tomorrow, Thursday, 13th May, at 9.30am

Representatives from Pieta and Aware will appear virtually before the sub-Committee in Committee Room 2 for the discussion.
Aware provides free support, education and information services to people who experience depression or bipolar disorder as well as their loved one Pieta provides free counselling to people with suicide ideation, those engaging in self harm and those bereaved by suicide.
Cathaoirleach of the Sub-Committee, Senator Frances Black said: “This is a welcome opportunity to get an overview from both Aware and Pieta on the mental health services they provide in supporting people with depression and preventing suicide. The charities are ideally placed through their invaluable work to give a first-hand account of the impact covid-19 has had mental health, the number of people reaching out for help, and the services needed to meet demand.”
