Oireachtas Committee to meet Irish Local Development Network

18 Beal 2021, 15:49

The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands will meet representatives from the Irish Local Development Network (ILDN), tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 May, to consider the organisation’s pre-budget submission, strategy statement and related policy matters.

ILDN’s chief executive officer Joseph Saunders and chairperson Adeline O’Brien are scheduled to appear before the Committee virtually.
The meeting will take place from Leinster House, Committee Room 3 at 9.30am.
Committee Cathaoirleach, Denis Naughten TD said: “The Irish Local Development Network (ILDN)is the representative body of Ireland’s 49 Local Development Companies. The Committee looks forwarding to hearing about the work of these companies, supporting citizens and communities and their most recent and on-going work responding to the Covid-19 crisis.
“Throughout the Covid-19 crisis Local Development Network companies across the Country have been to the fore in designing innovative solutions to meet the needs of people isolated in their own homes as a result of the lockdowns.  The Committee wants to explore how some of these innovations can now be mainstreamed to meet the needs of those who have been isolated in the past and remain so, regardless of physical location or public health guidance”
“The engagement is a welcome opportunity to get ILDN’s views on issues including Local Employment Services (LES), LEADER funding, Social Inclusion Activation Programme (SICAP) Tús, Community Employment and the Rural Social Scheme.  The meeting is part of the Committee’s work in preparing a pre-budget submission for Government with recommendations not only on spending but on how best to deliver programmes across the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Community and Rural Development.”
