30 Meith 2021, 15:55

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will hear from Simon Coveney, Minister for Foreign Affairs regarding issues arising from the Committee’s engagement with representatives of the Ballymurphy families at a meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 1 July in Leinster House, Committee Room 1 at 12:30 pm.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Fergus O’Dowd TD said: “The Committee had the opportunity to engage with family members and representatives of the Ballymurphy Families at a recent meeting. Discussing how the inquest found that all ten people shot in Ballymurphy 50 years ago were entirely innocent and that the force used on the day was disproportionate. We listened to the representatives in the hope of trying to understand what the findings meant to them and to see how we could assist the families, and their supporters.”

The Cathaoirleach added: “The Committee agreed to invite the Minister to tomorrow’s meeting to discuss our engagement with the Ballymurphy Families and representatives and also to get further clarity on the Governments position and allow Members the opportunity to raise issues.”

You can view the meeting in Committee Room 1 on the Oireachtas website.
