Oireachtas Committee discuss the next generation of political representatives in Northern Ireland

5 Iúil 2021, 19:12

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will discuss the next generation of political representatives in Northern Ireland with Councillors from Northern Ireland at a meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, 6 July in Leinster House, Committee Room 3 at 9:30 am.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Fergus O’Dowd TD said: “For any democracy to survive, people must be able to participate. Any barriers and obstacles need to be removed to allow everyone to get involved – participating at every level is crucial and will help implement policies and procedures that make it easier for people.

Listening to these witnesses, the next generation of political representation, for fresh ideas, new insights and possible solutions to problems and issues that may not have been looked at before will go a long way in ensuring true participation in politics and political decision making.”

The Cathaoirleach added: “The Committee looks forward to discussing this topic with Councillors from Norther Ireland. Hopefully a conversation that will shed some light on issues or concerns that need to be looked at further to allow for true participation from everyone as the next generation of political representatives.”

You can view the meeting in Committee Room 3 on the Oireachtas website.
