Committee of Public Accounts to resume examination of 2019 Financial Statements of National Paediatric Hospital Board

12 Iúil 2021, 16:45

The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 13 July, to resume examination of the 2019 Financial Statements of the National Paediatric Hospital Board with representatives of the Board and officials from the Department of Health.

The meeting at 9.30am, which will be broadcast from Committee Room 1 of Leinster House, will hear from:

·       National Paediatric Hospital Board – David Gunning, Chief Officer; Phelim Devine, Project Director; Jim Farragher, Finance Manager; and Emma Curtis, Medical Director.

·       Department of Health – Derek Tierney, Assistant Secretary of Health Infrastructure, and Fiona Prendergast, Acting Director of Health Infrastructure.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Stanley said: “This meeting with the National Paediatric Hospital Board and the Department of Health is a follow-up to our previous engagement in February of this year on the Board’s 2019 Financial Statements and related matters. There is considerable public concern about the rising costs, disputes with the contractor and ongoing delays associated with the new National Children’s Hospital, the largest and most expensive infrastructure project in the history of the State. The Committee looks forward to further discussions with the Board and the Department on this hugely important project.”

The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.

PAC is a standing committee of Dáil Éireann which focuses on ensuring public services are run efficiently and achieve value for money.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
