Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage to discuss water infrastructure and water quality with Environmental Protection Agency

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 14 October, to discuss water infrastructure, water quality and Water Quality Reports with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) led by Dr Tom Ryan, Director of the Office of Environmental Enforcement (OEE).

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Steven Matthews said: “The EPA is the independent statutory body with oversight responsibility for water and water quality, including in relation to water infrastructure and drinking water quality.

“Areas that interest the Committee include current water quality in Ireland, challenges around the provision of drinking water, environmental priorities in relation to waste water treatment and the recent failures at drinking water treatment plants in Ballymore Eustace and Gorey. The Committee looks forward to discussing these and related matters with Dr Ryan and his colleagues.”

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
