The Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science will resume its  examination of Leaving Certificate Reform with a roundtable discussion on Reform referring specifically to Higher and Further Education Requirements, Vocational Options and Career Paths at its meeting, Tuesday, 19 October with higher and further educational representative bodies.

The meeting will be broadcast from Committee Room 2 at 11 am.

Representatives from the following organisations will be in attendance:

  • Technological Higher Education Authority (THEA)
  • Higher Education Colleges Association (HECA)

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Cathaoirleach, Paul Kehoe TD, said: “The Committee will discuss what Further and Higher Education providers identify as the key areas that need reform, with a focus on Higher and Further Education Requirements, Vocational Options and Career Paths.

The Cathaoirleach added: “The meeting today is an important one as it seeks the views and insights of the representative organisations for Further and Higher Education. This sector is integral in any decisions on reforming the Leaving Certificate and, indeed, offering insights into pathways for educational progression throughout people’s lives. While the Leaving Certificate is internationally respected and a seminal achievement in a person’s life, there must be a focus on Life Long Learning too’.

The Committee looks forward to discussing these topics and having the wider conversation with the stakeholders.”
