Disability Matters Committee to discuss situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies with representatives from the European Disability Forum and CBM Global Disability

The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet on Thursday April 28th to discuss situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 09:45-11:15.

The following representatives are due to appear:

 - Catherine Naughton, Director - European Disability Forum           
 - Dr Mary Keogh, Advocacy Director  -  CBM Global Disability


Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan said: “We look forward to discussing Article 11 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities which obligates State parties to ensure the protection and safety of persons with disabilities in situations of risk, including situations of armed conflict, humanitarian emergencies and the occurrence of natural disasters.”

“The Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine has shown us that the rights of people with disabilities must be upheld and put to the fore and their safety and welfare must be considered by Governments in line with its responsibilities under the UNCRPD.”
