Enterprise Committee to discuss the cost of living, minimum wage increase and the Low Pay Commission report with representatives from Mandate and the Low Pay Commission

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will meet on Wednesday September 28th, to discuss the cost of living - minimum wage increase and Low Pay Commission report.

The meeting will take place between 9:30amand 12:30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.

The following representatives are due to appear:

• General Secretary of Mandate Trade Union Gerry Light
• Chair of the Low Pay Commission Ultan Courtney

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “We welcome the opportunity to discuss the cost of living and changes to the minimum wage in light of Budget 2023 being announced on Tuesday.”

 “The Low Pay Commission (LPC) conducted a public consultation earlier this year where submissions were invited on the appropriate rate of the National Minimum Wage for 2023. The LPC recommendation to Government was for an 80 cent increase in the National Minimum Wage - whilst not the highest ever increase in the National Minimum Wage it is the largest increase recommended by the Commission to date.”

“The Government has accepted the Commission’s recommendation, and the National Minimum Wage will rise to €11.30 from January 1st, 2023.”


“We also welcome the opportunity to discuss the report of the Low Pay Commission on how best the Government could progress to a Living Wage and how the impact of the minimum wage increase will have on businesses and employers amid rising energy costs, pension enrolments and rising inflation.”
