​Joint Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport to discuss policy, governance and expenditure with RTÉ

The Joint Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport will meet on Wednesday May 28th for engagement regarding matters relating to policy, governance, expenditure, and administration at RTÉ.

The meeting will take place between 12:30-15:00 in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House. 

The following representatives from RTÉ are due to appear: 

  • Terence O’Rourke, Board Chairperson
  • Kevin Bakhurst, Director General
  • Adrian Lynch, Deputy Director General
  • Daniel Coady, Director Legal Affairs
  • Deirdre McCarthy, Director News and Current Affairs
  • Eimear Cusack, Director Human Resources
  • Gavin Deans, Director Commercial
  • Mari Hurley, Chief Financial Officer
  • Patricia Monahan, Director of Audio
  • Richard Waghorn, Chief Technology Officer and Director Operations
  • Steve Carson, Director of Video

Officials from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media will also appear: 

  • Feargal Ó Coigligh, Secretary General
  • Tríona Quill, Assistant Secretary
  • Stephen Ryan, Principal Officer

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Alan Kelly said: “This Committee is eager to build on the body of work undertaken by our predecessor Committee in the last Dáil and work consistently with all parties involved with the issues at RTÉ since they came to light in 2023.”

“We see our work as being central to the continuing reshaping of RTÉ and we remain steadfast in our belief that public service broadcasting is a key pillar of Ireland’s democracy and that transparency and accountability on the part of our public service broadcasters are fundamental.”

“Impairments and the write-down of sums relating to the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Project, PRSI classification and related current and legacy employment issues, the redundancy schemes and RTÉ’s ongoing plans for transformation are among the items we will discuss as well as recent developments in relation to the production of news and current affairs."

“We welcome the opportunity to discuss what implementation measures are being made within RTÉ to ensure the highest standards of governance, policy, expenditure, and administration.”
