Joint Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy meets for engagement on the EPA’s Coastal Lagoons: Ecology and Restoration (CLEAR) Report

The Committee will discuss the Environmental Protection Agency’s research study titled “Coastal Lagoons: Ecology and Restoration (CLEAR) Report" at 12:30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House with:

• Mr. Eoin Kinsella, Executive Agricultural Scientist, Wexford County Council
• Dr. Brendan O'Connor, Founder, Aquafact
• Dr. Cilian Roden, Aquafact
• Dr. Eddie McCormack, Associate Director, Aquafact
• Mr. Andy Bleasdale, National Parks and Wildlife Service
• Ms Ciara O'Mahony, National Parks and Wildlife Service
• Ms Catriona Ryan, Director, National Parks and Wildlife Service

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí TD said “Our Committee meets to discuss the CLEAR Report tomorrow. Lady’s Island Lake is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and priority habitat under the EU’s Habitats Directive located in southern Wexford.

“The area has seen severe degradation from nutrient inputs leading to eutrophication and harmful algal blooms.

“We will look to the representatives attending tomorrow to detail the key findings  contained within the Report and how an appraisal on the causes and consequences has been conducted. We will look for detail on what solutions have been proposed and the methodology of their introduction.”
