The Joint Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 12 June, to discuss the ‘Extension of the EU-UK Trade Agreement and the implications for the Irish fishing and seafood sector’.
The meeting at 9:30am in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions to hear from:
9:30am – Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with responsibility for Fisheries, Timmy Dooley TD;
11am – Representatives from the Irish fishing and seafood sector.
Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Conor McGuinness said: “The recent extension of the post-Brexit trade agreement between the EU and Britain has led to concerns about its potential impact on our fisheries and seafood sector, which last year was worth €1.24 billon to the economy and supported nearly 17,000 jobs.
“The Committee welcomes these engagements with Minister Dooley and representatives from the industry. Committee Members look forward to examining the details of the latest agreement relating to fisheries and seafood, the implications for the sector in Ireland, and related matters.”
The Joint Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
