The Joint Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 17 June, for separate engagements with Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and the Aquaculture Licences Appeals Board (ALAB).

The meeting at 11am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions to hear from:

11am – Representatives of BIM regarding its Business of Seafood Report 2024;

12:45pm – Representatives of ALAB regarding the Appointment of the Chairperson Designate to the Board.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Conor McGuinness said: “Bord Iascaigh Mhara is the State agency responsible for developing the Irish seafood industry and has a role to play in developing and promoting Ireland’s fishing and seafood industry, so that we become a global leader in high value, healthy, responsibly and sustainably produced seafood. BIM’s Business of Seafood Report 2024 has recently been published and the Committee looks forward to discussing the report and related matters with BIM.

“Joint Committees have an important role to play regarding the appointment of any new Chairperson Designate of a State body that falls under the Committee’s remit. The Aquaculture Licences Appeals Board is mandated to determine appeals relating to aquaculture licensing decisions made by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine. In our second session, members welcome this opportunity to discuss the appointment of the Chairperson Designate of the Board with representatives of ALAB.”

The Joint Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
