The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will meet on Wednesday June 18th to discuss the European Commission’s Omnibus proposal on simplification and in particular its implications for the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.
The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House between 12:30-15:00.
The Committee will hear from officials from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Leas Chathaoirleach Deputy Brian Brennan said:
“We welcome the opportunity to discuss the European Commission’s Omnibus proposal on simplification and in particular its implications for the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSDDD).”
“The proposals relating to the CSDDD will significantly reduce the burden on business.”
“Ireland transposed the CSRD Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) last year but there is currently a “competitiveness gap” in terms of the law that applies to sustainability reporting obligations between Member States who have, and who have not, transposed the original CSRD.”
“The on-time transposition of the Directive into Irish law was welcomed by stakeholders, giving clarity and certainty to those obliged to prepare their first reports for the 2024 financial year, to be published in 2025.”
“The CSDDD provides that in-scope companies must, for the first time, conduct risk-based human rights and environmental due diligence and integrate due diligence into all corporate policies and risk management systems.”
“Ireland is fully supportive of the adoption of this proposal at the earliest opportunity to both ensure a level playing field and to provide legal certainty for business and stakeholders.”
