European Union Affairs Committee to discuss EU General Affairs Council meetings with Minister of State for EU Affairs and Defence Thomas Byrne

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House between 15:30-17:30. 
 
Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Barry Ward said: “We welcome the opportunity to discuss the recent EU General Affairs Council meetings with the newly appointed Minster of State Thomas Byrne. The Minister will update us on key developments at a European Union level, particularly following the General Affairs Council in Brussels on 27 May”
 
“The European agenda remains dominated by several critical challenges – including Russia aggression against Ukraine, the Middle East, our collective focus on EU security and defence, competitiveness, and Transatlantic Relations.
 
“European defence and security continue to be a key theme following EU leaders' agreement last March to accelerate work strengthening European security capabilities and we look forward to discussing these and other related matters as a Committee.”
