Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food meets for engagement on the eradication of Bovine TB

17 Meith 2025, 15:48

The Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food meets tomorrow, Wednesday 18th June at 3:30pm for engagement on the eradication of Bovine TB in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House.

The meeting will hear from representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the TB 2030 Stakeholder Forum.

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Aindrias Moynihan said: “Bovine TB continues to impact herds throughout Ireland.  Since reaching a historical low in 2016, when herd incidence in this country fell to 3.27%, we have seen bovine TB levels increase year on year. It is very evident that there is a real need to address the root causes of TB and for a more science-driven strategy in order to tackle the disease.

“We look forward to our discussion tomorrow with the Department and the TB 2030 Stakeholder Forum to get their perspectives on what implementations could be introduced to bolster the work already being carried out and we will look to them to outline their positions on what are the positive and negative impacts of the current strategies being utilised to eradicate bovine TB.

“Tá an Coiste ag tnúth go mór leis an gcruinniú agus leis an deis plé a dhéanamh leis an Roinn agus le Fóram Eitinn 2030, faoi na céimeanna éagsúla gur féidir a thógaint chun déileáil leis an eitinn. Iarrfaimid orthu chomh-maith faoi na céimeanna dearfacha agus diúltacha sa chóras reatha agus conas gur féidir é a fheabhsú.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
