Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage to discuss Multiple Unit Developments with stakeholders

13 DFómh 2025, 16:00

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 14 October, to discuss Multiple Unit Developments with representatives from the Apartment Owners Network, MUD Act Reform Group, and the Construction Defects Alliance.

Ahead of the meeting at 3pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Micheál Carrigy said: “Multiple unit developments have at least five residential units that share facilities, amenities and services and have an owners’ management company. The Multi-Unit Developments Act 2011 regulates how the common areas of multiple unit developments are owned and managed.

“The Committee will hear from the Apartment Owners’ Network, the Construction Defects Alliance and the MUD Act Reform Group, who together represent hundreds of thousands of people living in apartment and duplex complexes, owners of these homes and people serving as directors of their owners’ management companies.

“Areas for discussion include a review of the 2011 Act, shortcomings in the implementation and oversight of the legislation and issues around apartment block defects such as construction-related problems and fire safety issues. The Committee looks forward to a wide-ranging examination of these issues and related matters with our stakeholders.”

The Committee will hold a separate meeting from 6pm to 7:30pm tomorrow, also in Committee Room 3, to discuss the Exempted Development Regulations for Slurry Storage and Animal Housing with the Minister of State for the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Deputy John Cummins and officials from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The two meetings in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
