I also strongly support Senator Brady in his call for another debate on drugs....Young people going to discos or nightclubs can tell us who is supplying and dealing in drugs....The problem is that the information is not reaching the Garda and the people who are supplying the drugs...are not where they should be, namely, in prison.

He was a homeless young man who was caught up in the whole drugs scene....His life was ruined as a result of drugs....Why did Dean Lyons remain in prison until April 1998 when it was clear charges would have to be dropped...He spent a total of eight months in Mountjoy Prison from the time of his alleged confession to these...He remained in prison for that eight month period and we still have not received any explanation either

Thornton Hall prison project may well be in doubt, despite the bullish statement by the Minister for...The entire prison budget is down by 3% and the Courts Service budget is down by 5%....The issue of anti-social behaviour has not been addressed, neither has the problem of drugs....Other than trying to do something about sniffer dogs and mandatory drug searches in prison, the Minister...has no proposals to deal with the huge spread of drugs throughout the community.
