By way of clarification for the Minister, we are saying that any money that arises from the sale of ACC...Bank will not go into Exchequer funding but rather will go into the pension fund....I am at a loss to know how that is a cost to the Exchequer because the budget has been set for 2001....There are no moneys included from the sale of ACC Bank....In any future sale of ACC Bank the Minister would have to decide what to do with it so the Minister cannot

Finneran I commend the Bill to the House....It is simple in that it intends to increase the authorised share capital of the ACC Bank, to facilitate...The restructuring of the bank, as proposed in the Bill, is prudent given its activities....When farmers had the door slammed in their faces by other financial institutions and banks, the ACC Bank...The ACC Bank now has an opportunity to refocus on that section of the market.

If all this is above board and works out it will be a great boost for ACC Bank....ACC Bank is the last State-owned financial institution to be sold....ACC Bank has stated that it is now focusing on particular areas....The Bill contains many contradictions and I would welcome clarification....ACC Bank is still owned by the State and it may or may not attract a buyer.

McDowell I did not intend to obstruct the passage of the Bill or unduly delay Committee Stage, but I...I understand the Bill is intended to encourage people in ACC Bank to get their act together so that it...I hope this will not have the effect of a fire sale where a sign is put up which suggests that the bank...Members today and on Second Stage that there is still some distance to go before it would be good for the ACC...Bank and its customers to be sold and before the State can realise its best value.

Cullen) I thank Senators for their contributions to this debate on the ACC Bank....ACC Bank conducted a full-scale review of its corporate loan book during 2000....I will not comment on Eircom as its situation is different from that of ACC Bank....The sale of ACC Bank will be a trade sale, following which the ESOP shares will be swapped for shares...The bank had a provision of 21 million in its 2001 results to pay for this.
