My answer to all of that is to call on this House to say "No" to vulture funds and to say "Yes" to families...I ask Members to support this Bill. The provisions of this Bill are quite similar to those in legislation - the Housing Emergency Measures...those contained in the Bill before the House....or for a mortgage....list and have absolutely no possibility of getting a mortgage....the average price of a house in Tipperary is €183,688.

Will the Minister of State tell me how many of those young people can afford an affordable house?...We have to work on this Bill....people at the start of their careers who, instead of having to stay with their parents to save for a mortgage..., can afford to buy a house as was traditional before the collapse....Will the Minister of State tell me how they will afford to buy a house?

That is the pot for the provision of social and affordable housing in 2019....There is a strong and growing social housing pipeline in place, as evidenced by the quarter two 2018...On affordable housing, there is a multistrand targeted approach being pursued in the counties most affected...If the Senator had said we were not doing enough quickly enough, that would probably have been more fair..., but we tend to not receive fair criticism when it comes to housing.

He introduced a Mortgage Resolution Bill, which is before the Dáil, that will go a long way towards trying...or extending the term of their loan, as has been proposed in the Mortgage Resolution Bill....Fianna Fáil's Mortgage Resolution Bill requires a money message from the Government to proceed....It is a fair Bill that can be a final solution to the mortgage arrears crisis....The State will not have the future cost of providing housing for those thrown out of their homes.

Deputy Joan Burton To make this Bill fit for purpose with regard to helping the young people of Ireland...in particular to get a personal family home, either to purchase on an affordable basis or to rent, perhaps...via a local authority, we need to change the definition and purposes of the Bill....There is nothing about social or affordable housing....to buy a modest house unless they are living in a part of Ireland with very cheap housing?
