407. Deputy Niamh Smyth asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage if the pay and conditions of graveyard caretakers (details supplied) will be examined and improved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16615/24]

The following deferred reply was received under Standing Order 51.
Public Sector pay policy is set centrally by the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform in line Public Sector pay agreements, the most recent of which was agreed last October. My Department oversees workforce planning for the local government sector, including the monitoring of local government sector employment levels. My Department does not have a role in relation to the arrangements for the delivery of services at local level.
Under Section 159 of the Local Government Act 2001, each Chief Executive is responsible for the staffing and organisational arrangements necessary for carrying out the functions of the local authority for which he/she is responsible including in respect of graveyard caretakers, for whom arrangements are agreed based on the particular circumstances determined by need. The Chief Executive of Kerry County Council is responsible for putting arrangements in place in relation to County Kerry.
