Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Retirement Age.

Robert Molloy

Question:

38 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Justice if she will introduce a common retirement age for members of the Garda Síochána; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5472/95]

Ivor Callely

Question:

134 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, she has to raise the present retirement age for gardaí; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5510/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 38 and 134 together.

There are no plans at present to alter the retirement ages for members of the Garda Síochána.

The representative associations in the Garda Síochána have claims before the Garda Conciliation Council at present for alterations in the retirement ages of the various ranks.

As I am precluded by the C and A scheme from commenting on claims which are before it, I am unable to comment further on the matter at this stage.
