Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dundrum (Dublin) By-Pass.

Tom Kitt

Question:

93 Mr. T. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment when funding will be provided for the construction of the Dundrum by-pass, Dublin 14; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5409/95]

As the Dundrum by-pass is a non-national road project, its planning, construction and financing are the responsibility of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. I understand that the necessary land has yet to be acquired by the county council for the by-pass and that compulsory purchase procedures may have to be invoked.

It would be open to the council to use its discretionary grant allocation — £564,000 in 1995 — to supplement expenditure from its own resources on the project. Alternatively, the project could be considered by the council for inclusion in its proposals for funding in 1996 under the EU co-financed scheme of grants for improvement works on certain categories of non-national roads.
