The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet on Wednesday October 19th for engagement on the EU-level policy response to current energy security issues in Europe, including implications of EU energy security policy for Ireland.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 9:30-12:30.

• Dr Paul Deane - The Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork
• Mr Cillian O’Donoghue - Eurelectric

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Joe McHugh TD said: “This is a timely opportunity to discuss the EU response to the current energy security issues that have impacted Ireland and Europe following the war in Ukraine."

“The European Commission has proposed new emergency measure to tackle high energy members but these do not include an immediate cap on gas prices as EU countries differ on the idea.”

“We look forward to discussing the impact capping gas prices may have and wider issues surrounding energy security with representatives.”
