To ask the Minister for Agriculture whether any distinction is made between the amount of Cost of Living Bonus paid to whole-time teachers of Irish under the schemes formulated by County and other Technical Committees under the Department and the amount of bonus paid to whole-time teachers of other subjects; whether it is proposed to pay this Cost of Living Bonus to the whole-time teachers of Irish to be appointed by or under these Committees during the coming school session; also, whether the temporary additional remuneration hitherto paid to part-time teachers under such Committees will be paid to part-time teachers of Irish now being appointed to carry on the work of instruction in Irish in connection with the classes during the coming session.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - TEACHERS OF IRISH—COST OF LIVING BONUS.
TOMAS O CONAILL
Mr. KEVIN O'HIGGINS
No distinction is made between the amount of Cost of Living Bonus paid to whole-time teachers of Irish under local schemes of Technical Instruction and the amount of bonus paid to whole-time teachers of other subjects. As, however, the estimates for the current financial year were prepared before the appointments of a large number of whole and part-time teachers of Irish were proposed, no provision was made for bonus or temporary additional remuneration of such teachers, and no increase can now be made in the estimates submitted.
