asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the arrest of Denis Leyden, O'Callaghan's Mills, Co. Clare, on July 7th, 1923, and of his trial before a Military Court on July 7th, 1923, and if he will state what notice was given to the relatives of Leyden as to the date of the trial, so that legal assistance might be secured for him; further, whether sentence has yet been promulgated, and, if not, why Leyden is still detained in custody.

Mr. Leyden was arrested on the 7th July, 1923. His case was investigated by a Committee of Officers, but the investigation did not result in the imposition of a sentence. He is interned for considerations of public safety.

It has not been the practice to send any such notification.
