Vol. 11 No. 1

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - DISTRIBUTION OF LONGFORD AND WESTMEATH LANDS.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will now state the names and addresses of landowners in Longford and Westmeath in respect of whose lands negotiations for purchase have been completed by the Land Commission; the average price per acre paid or proposed to be paid by the Land Commission for such land; and when the Land Commission will be in a position to distribute the lands acquired by them in Longford and Westmeath for the relief of congestion in the different districts.

Detailed information, such as asked for in the question, cannot be furnished in reply to Parliamentary questions. The Deputy has already been furnished with particulars of properties which the Land Commission are negotiating to purchase under the Land Act, 1923, in Counties Longford and Westmeath.

The Land Commission have purchased under the Land Act, 1923, in County Longford 931 acres, and in County Westmeath, 1,124 acres of untenanted land: total, 2,055 acres. These lands have been distributed to allottees or are in process of distribution.

The Commission have also agreed to purchase 2,925 acres of land in County Westmeath, and it is hoped to have these lands distributed at an early date. Negotiations are proceeding in respect of other lands in both counties.
